Catherine Wimberly Obituary

Catherine Hughes Wimberly, aged 63 and widow of Terry Edwin Wimberly, peacefully earned her angel wings and entered into eternal rest at her home on Monday, April 29, 2024. Her valiant battle with cancer was a testament to her strength and resilience, concluding with grace and dignity.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Catherine shared a deep love for the equine industry with her late husband, Terry. Together, they nurtured Sweetgrass Farm into a thriving venture, embodying their shared passion for horses. Despite her adventurous spirit and global adventures, Catherine found solace and joy in life on the farm, cherishing moments spent in the company of her beloved horses.

Catherine’s indomitable spirit and unwavering optimism served as an inspiration to all who knew her. Her resilience in the face of adversity, coupled with her boundless love and perseverance, left an enduring legacy. She imparted these values to her children, who will carry her legacy with great pride.

Catherine is survived by her daughters, Aynsley Camille (Zachary) Honeycutt and Chelsea Leila (Grande) Wimberly Fender; stepsons, Christopher Wayne (Janice) Wimberly and Bradley James (Victoria) Wimberly; five grandchildren, Leila Kait Fender, Rose Alexandria Wimberly, Lucius Edwin Wimberly, Kinley Grace Wimberly, and Kaylie Olivia Wimberly; sisters, Brenda H. Young (Ralph) Heatherly and Helen “Teal” Etheridge; and brother, Terry (Terri) Hughes.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society ‘Hope Lodge’ at 269 Calhoun St., Charleston, SC 29401, providing cancer patients with accommodations during treatment. Donations can also be made online. Alternatively, contributions may also be directed to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 114 Baptist Drive, St. George, SC 29477. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Bryant Funeral Home, St. George. Funeral services will take place 1:00 PM Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Steve Mims followed by burial in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will include Zachary Honeycutt, Grande Fender, Blake Perkins, Alex Perkins, Barry Burnett, and James Bridge. The family asks that everyone wear a bright colors because of Catherine’s love of color and bright personality.
